Pumpkin and Squash Harvest at Whispering Pines

Saturday seemed like a good day to harvest the pumpkins and squash. We had a bumper crop!  The four tiny plants we stuck in the ground in late May produced 38 perfect pumpkins.
We loaded them into the box of Lenny's '79 Dodge farm pick-up and headed to our favorite Saturday morning  breakfast café.  Lenny stopped and gave pumpkins away wherever he saw children. (The adults got the squash.) It didn't take long for the pick-up to be empty!  His reward was the surprise and delight on the boys' and girls' faces when he lifted them into the back of the truck and they got to choose their very own pumpkin.
That's a lasting harvest of joy!
