On my I-Pod I've been listening to Liza Minnelli belt out the old bitter sweet tune, "Try to Remember". This time of year is bitter sweet. When I go for a walk and listen to her sing I revel in the glorious display of color all around me but I have intrusive thoughts about the fact that soon the colors will disappear and we'll be left with gray, bare twigs where once there was abundant life. Bittersweet.
I'm sharing the final verse of the song because it puts into words what I feel this time of year.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
Without a hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
The fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December, our hearts should remember
And follow.
Bittersweet.
