It was a fabulous fall day in North Dakota. With the temperature nearing 75 degrees, no wind, and a bright blue sky, Lenny and I decided to take a ride on the Harley to Granville, ND which is 20 miles east of Whispering Pines on Highway 2.
My aunt, Ardy, is deep into renovating the bank in that town. Built in 1903, it is a beautiful solid rock and brick structure that has been out of use for many, many years and had gone to the varmints. Ardy is a feisty, tenacious 83 year old woman with a huge heart and a love and a passion for bringing life to old structures. 25 years ago she and her husband brought life into the original homestead of her grandparents on the North Dakota prairie. Now she's put her mind into evicting the current tenants of the bank in town (pigeons and mice) and creating a space that is both old and new. This afternoon she invited Lenny and I to take a tour through the building to view the progress.Aunt Ardy in front of the old bank vault.
The front steps of the old bank are still in their original shape. Many generations of folks have been photographed on these very steps. I promise to keep my dear readers posted on the progress of the renovation of this stately building that is so deserving of the labor of love being poured into it.
On the way home we passed by many groves of trees like this one that are coming into their fall glory. It feels eternal. The old and dead passes away, but with one grand dream powered with love and boundless imagination the old becomes new again.
What's she planning to do with the rescued building?
