The News from Whispering Pines

Wednesday evening after work Mrs. Brewer motored out to the home of Mrs. Lucille Loftesnes to greet relatives who were visiting from Colorado. Mrs. Maureen Lang, sister of Mrs. Brewer, and her two daughters Kelsey and Devan, had traveled to the former's parental home for a summer visit. Also present was Brian, Kelsey Lang's sweetheart. He is not from these parts as his parental home is in Texas. The welcome mat was out for all. Mrs. Loftesnes had fixed a simple meal of sloppy joes, macaroni salad, and pickles. As the heat and humidity were high, the appetites were low. Reports are that the ice cold beer tasted especially good.

A photograph of the group from Colorado was taken in front of the barn with Grandpa Andy's old blue grain truck.

After making plans with the family for the Independence Day Holiday, Mrs. Brewer returned home to Whispering Pines to prepare a meal for her husband who had been traveling for his employment and was expected home shortly.

While driving home she reflected on the many summers that relatives had come to visit at her parental home. For over 50 summers several generations of Loftesnes folk had gathered from far and near in that farm kitchen and caught up on each others' lives. The miles between them became few as they told stories of past and present, reminisced, and laughed as only families who share the same funny bone can laugh. She wondered how many people were able to meet and eat in the same kitchen for over 50 years. She felt blessed that the roots ran deep in her family and that the children and grandchildren and now, great-grandchildren, were able to love and laugh and learn in that family kitchen.
