It's been a pretty good week. The weather here in North Dakota continues to be balmy; highly unusual for our neck of the woods. I hear old-timers saying they can't remember a January like the one we just finished. Lenny's snowmobiles continue to sit in the garage. I imagine them lurching forward whenever I see a flake of snow fall, then falling back in disappointment when the snowfall turns out to be just that; a few flakes. I think Lenny is having second thoughts about trading his Harley in for snow toys! Most folks around here are just incredibly grateful that we're not having record amounts of moisture with no where to go in the spring. I hear some people say, "God is giving us a break". I don't beleive that way, because if I follow the logic it means that last summer God was pounding us. I don't believe God pounds me or anyone else, ever. I think He's in charge of nature as a whole and set in motion the weather thing eons ago, but I don't think He micromanages the Universe. Nature does what nature will. Kind of makes me think of Matthew 5:45..."for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous." In other words, He doesn't pick and chose the when and where of sunshine or storms. Do any of my dear, discerning readers have a thought or comment on my theology? Agree or disagree?
And it's Super Bowl Week-end. This morning as I was driving to my exercise work-out I heard Bobby Bare sing, "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through The Goal Post of Life". When I start thinking too deeply about spiritual and religious matters a song like that brings it all back to the basics. Bring on the Super Bowl..
...and please Jesus, drop kick me through the goal posts of life..but be gentle about it!
I am in total theological alignment with you on this subject. It is always a sticker of a question for people who want to blame God for something going wrong.
