Sweet, Simple Things

"I am beginning to realize that it is the sweet, simple things of life that are the real ones, after all." It's been awhile since I've shared this quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder which is the inspiration for this segment of my blog. It's a reminder to get back to the basics. My, but it's been a complicated week. I'll just say that both death and taxes were involved. Here are a few of the things that saw me through: 1. A Banquet Beef Pot Pie for supper. When Lenny is out of town for a few days I often treat myself to one or two of these. He hates them and they're comfort food for me. When I was a child we got to eat them on Sunday nights while we watched The Wonderful World of Disney. It wasn't often we were allowed to watch TV, much less eat a frozen dinner!

2. A new C.J. Box book is out. I didn't even have to drive to the bookstore or wait in line to buy it. I punched a few buttons and presto, there was A Cold Wind waiting to be read on my Nook. I discovered C.J. Box while living in Wyoming. He writes suspenseful, murder mystery books with Joe Pickett, a Wyoming game warden as the main character. His descriptions of breath-taking Wyoming landscapes make me long to go back for a visit.

3. Waking up in the morning to the light of day. I really don't care much for sunlight until 9PM, but I love waking up to daybreak.

4. Red wine. It's medicinal.

5. White wine. It's refreshing.

Can any of my dear readers give me advice on which wine pairs best with frozen pot pies?

  1. I think any wine is fine with pot pies. Those are some of my favorite "by myself" dishes. Unreal how we think alike!

  2. I also love pot pies and Mike also does not love them.

  3. Ladies--This is funny. When you read my blog it was not quite ready for prime time! I was just working on it and somehow it got posted. Oh well, thanks for the comments! (You may want to read it again.)

  4. Reading your blog tonight was like having comfort food. I still love pot pies and Banquet is best. Marie Callendar's is also pretty good. (Swanson's doesn't have both bottom and top crusts.)

As for wine, i would choose a nice Oaky Buttery Chardonnay (like Edna Valley) just because I think it goes with anything....Plus i like the name Edna as it comforts me to sip from something named after one of our teachers.
