My dear, devoted readers know about my love-hate relationship with summer. I love standing in our garden, plucking and eating green peas right off the vine. I'm deeply relaxed when I'm digging in the dirt planting geraniums and petunias. I feel powerful when I pull out big, nasty weeds. I pretend they're cancer, I get at the roots and hack away! I like big family gatherings and eating outside. But I struggle with the endless sunlight of days that go on too long. I like to shut down at about 8PM and begin relaxing. That's hard to do when there are three more hours of daylight! And there is so much to do in our three short summer months. Weddings and reunions and fishing and marathons. The State Fair, flea markets and Farmer's Markets. Not to mention mowing and raking and trimming, sanding and painting. Most of it fun stuff, mind you, but energy sucking all the same. So by the time Labor Day comes, I'm
crawling over the Finish Line of Summer. I'm ready for quilting and reading, lighting candles and making soups, watching NDSU Bison football and new episodes of NCIS.
With that said, I drove out to the country today to have afternoon coffee with Mom and took some photos of the early fall countryside.
