20 January 2015

Dear Diary,
We took a trip down the road to Fargo this past week-end. We had a three day week-end for MLK,Jr. day. Now that I work for the government I have all of the federal holidays off. Sweet!  We had planned to be in Fargo by noon for Gage's basketball game, but the roads were snow covered and icy and driving at 40 mph wasn't going to get us to Fargo in time for the game. We decided to stop and have a leisurely breakfast of bacon and eggs at the Dakota Farms Cafe in Rugby. When we left there with full stomachs the sky was beginning to brighten in the east but the highway was still snow covered and slick. I worked on a cross word puzzle while Lenny white-knuckled the steering wheel. I offered to drive, but he declined! At Devil's Lake he was ready for a break from the road. Spirit Lake Casino
seemed like a good place to chill as we do enjoy pulling the handle on a slot machine once in awhile. After putting money in machines for about an hour we took a look outdoors and decided to head on down the road again. Finally the ice on Highway 2 was beginning to melt and Lenny felt confident continuing the trip. We had been close to turning around and going back home. Luckily we didn't have to make that decision as we were both looking forward to spending time with children and grandchildren. It's a rare priviledge. We enjoyed every minute.
