Sweet, Simple Things

What more is there to say about winter? It's long, it's cold, and it's long and it's cold. The coziness has turned into psychosis! The self-help books I perused yesterday at Barnes and Noble all claim that a gratitude list helps to turn a frown upside down. So, once again, here is my gratitude list in the form of Sweet, Simple Things.

1. Bacon and eggs with Lenny Saturday morning at our favorite breakfast joint, Country Kitchen, on the west side of town.

2. Lenny sat by my side in church today. What a joy that is for me!

3. Sitting in the MSU Dome with a bucket of popcorn watching my neice, Whitney, play college basketball. It's fine entertainment for a wintery day. (She's #30.)

4. Something yummy cooked by my honey on the grill in January!

5. My trusty internet connection and the fact that I live in a country where it's not likely the government will shut it down.

And so as another cold and snowy winter day comes to an end I'll share one of my favorite verses from Psalms 131:

"O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a child at it's mother's breast; like a child that is quieted is my soul."

  1. My list of "winter" sweet, simple things:
Not just one snow day, but TWO snow days! We are on our second day in a row of staying home. I am ready to go back to work because now I might have to do some housework or something.
