We woke up this morning to a frosty day. We've been spoiled as the past few weeks temperatures have been in the 80's. Quite bizarre for October in North Dakota. I have to say I was relieved to see the thermometer drop back down to normal. It seems like bad things tend to happen when the usual climate patterns run amuck and don't follow the rules. Things like tsunamis and hurricanes and tornadoes. That said, Lenny has been wanting to make his famous pot of chili for Sunday Night Supper and it hasn't been chili weather. Today turned out to be just the day. After church we drove to Marketplace Foods to gather up the ingredients. As we were walking out to the car with our cart loaded with kidney beans, onions, stewed tomatoes, chili powder, sour cream, and various other necessities it began to spit a cold rain. Now it was really perfect chili weather!
We hustled home with our bags of groceries and Lenny began his labor of love. The house grew warm and cozy as the pot began to sizzle and simmer. We took one of our frozen home made apple pies (see previous blog) out of the freezer and I got busy making corn bread muffins. We called the family and luckily they were able to accept the invitation to supper as we had an enormous amount of chili! (Lenny doesn't do things in a small way.)
We gathered close around the table, some folks keeping one eye and one ear on the Vikings game playing on TV in the other room, the rest of us visiting as we ate our chili and corn bread. I suppose in a few months, the cold weather will be a tiring nuisance and coziness will have turned into cabin fever, but for today I'm loving it!
Oh wow it sounds like HEAVEN to me...I also love the cool weather and long for it when the hot days seem out of sync.
