Strange But True Facts about Myself

I think that I am, for the most part, a quite normal and ordinary person. However, I have gotten a birthday card from one of my sons that read, "Thanks for never being ordinary." And a card from a friend that said, "I'm lucky to have a friend like you, all my other friends are normal." Now both of these greetings took me by surprise because normal and ordinary is how I see myself. I've never wanted to be ordinary, but I that's how I wound up. I tend to lack confidence in myself and ordinary is the safest default mode. I felt complimented by these cards. Anyway, where I'm going with this is to list a few strange, but true facts about myself. We'll see how many I can come up with tonight.

1. I really don't care for summer. I loathe that it stays light until 11PM. A few nice summer days and we could move on to fall. No problem for me. Then out come quilts, needlework, pots of stew and chili, candles, flannel sheets and flannel jammies. Can't even turn the oven on in the summer or cuddle up with my honey -- too hot.

2. I love to fold clothes. I like to take a basket of clean laundry and make order and sense of it. When I get very old I could easily be placed in front of a laundry basket that is perpetually full of clothes to fold and I would be happy as a clam.

3. I don't like TV. An occasional show I do enjoy, but most of TV makes me physically nauseated. Not so much the content as the noise and jitter of the screen. The canned laughter in sit-coms puts me over the edge. NPR is my entertainment and news source of choice. It's so calm and peaceful.

4. My decorating style is "elderly woman". I adore doilies on every chair and table, houseplants, family pictures everywhere, bookshelves full of books, and cutsie things like dolls and stuffed animals all around.

5. Politically I lean to the left, which in North Dakota is definitely not normal!
