On Wednesday I attended a Hospice Teleconference on Cancer and End-of-Life Care. It was profound, with some of the top experts on end-of-life care in the US on the panel. The "take-a-way" message for me was a statement by one of the speakers, "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to go today." Bingo.
Friday was my day off and I had a long list of errands. First af all, I needed a haircut and a root cover-up. How I miss the days when my hair follicles knew they were supposed to push out medium brown strands with golden highlights. Gray is NOT in my color palette. I've tried to go au-naturale, but that makes looking in a mirror shocking and depressing. Once every 6 weeks to 2 months Rae Ann goes to work on me. When she's done, my hair and my attitude are all perked up!
Then I had banking and insurance business. It's not easy to carve out time to take care of these essential things. A nurse can't leave her patients to run errands. I'm lucky to have a day off during the week to give attention to the business of running a home and family. Everyone I had to meet with was kind, pleasant, and competent -makes such a difference.
I made time for a trip to Hobby Lobby to get items for putting together a spring centerpeice. Out with winter--in with spring!
When all was done in town, I came home to Whispering Pines, cleaned a closet (spring-inspired) and took Daisy for a walk.
I made myself Cashew Chicken for supper and used extra ginger because I love ginger. That's one of the pleasures of cooking for myself--I can make exactly what I want, exactly how I like it!
Saturday flew by and I'm not sure what I did. I was engrossed in a book for part of the day; Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. I just couldn't put it down! Lenny came home Saturday night and that's all I'm going to say about that. :)
Sunday was our first spring day in North Dakota. Lenny and I walked around in the yard and became both excited and overwhelmed with what can and needs to be done. My personality says, "Baby steps" and his says, "Do it all right now as fast as you can". Our relationship involves much compromising!
We took a short ride on the Harley and met many others on motorcycles who had the same idea. That's a sure sound of spring, the roar of a Harley!
Couldn't help but cook out on the BBQ for supper. Ralph from Mississippi came over and Lenny made BBQ Chicken. I made a salad called Crunchy Slaw from a recipe of Trisha Yearwood's in Redbook Magazine. It turned out just like the magazine photo and tasted terrific. The recipe made enough to last all week!
So ends one week and another one starts. I feel lucky to be alive-- I, too, want to go to heaven, but certainly not today.
I love that take away message! I will have to remember it. Sounds like you had a lovely week.
