Alarm Clock + Coffee Pot = Monday Morning

I just set my alarm clock for 6:00 and the coffee pot for 5:00. That would be AM. After an exciting 3 day holiday week-end, the lake and fireworks and hotdogs and s'mores have come to an end. Monday morning is looming. And actually, no matter now much I like having time off for relaxation and celebrating, I look forward to getting back to the grind. Human beings thrive on routine and order. Don't change pews at church! Don't change the time the daily newspaper is delivered! (When my son was a newspaper delivery person, our phone started ringing if someone's Fargo Forum was 5 minutes late.) Really. Even in a snow storm.
I'm a textbook specimen of a human who likes routine. The familiar helps me feel secure. However, I do delight in being surprised on occasion and I have been known to change pews once or twice a year. My brain seems to function at a higher level when I know (or think I know) what's coming next. The stress waves aren't canceling out the thinking waves. I enjoy having things in my life I can count on. And what can a person count on more than a Monday morning?

  1. Yes, I thrive on at least a loose routine. I like some surprises throughout the day, but appreciate a general framework.
