Thoughts about People

A few days ago I read this little blurb in "The Sun" magazine. I was inspired to take a closer look at people and notice, really notice, their uniqueness. Thought you all might like it, as well.

"What saves me from the tedium of another day is falling hopelessly in love with the people I meet: the curly-haired barista at the coffee shop who hands me my change as if dipping his fingers into holy water; the girl with Down's Syndrome who talks loudly about vacationing with her grandmother; the elderly couple who grow giant bubblegum-colored puffs of dahlias across the street at the corner of Twelfth and Chambers; the toddler girl across the street who bleats sweetly, "Mama, come see!" I fall in love with the deep timbre of my brother's laugh; the way my mother says my name; the way my father calls me sweetheart; the way my sweetheart calls me baby."

Life is much more fun and interesting if I look at the people who go in and out of my day with delight, humor and admiration. If I look with irritation, judgement, anger, condescension or disgust, that is exactly what I see. If I look with kindness, peace, patience, and humility, those are the things that come back to me. Now, don't think this comes easy! For me, when I get it right, it's because I've made a conscious choice, am well-rested and well-fed! My nature is more likely to be irritable and judgemental. Without the grace of my God, my world surely would be blackened by negativity. With the help of the Spirit I see color and beauty everywhere, so many things that are created for beauty alone. Human beings with all their frailities, included!

This photo doesn't relate, I just like it!
