The News from Whispering Pines

Mrs. Andrew (Lucille) Loftesnes and Mrs. Lenard (Pam) Brewer motored to Colorado Springs, Colorado on Friday to attend the confirmation of granddaughter and neice, Devan Lang. The auto trip was long, but uneventful. They arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Del (Maureen) Lang at 9 in the evening after leaving from Minot at 6 AM. After a restful night's sleep, they woke on Saturday AM to a fine breakfast made by Mrs. Lang of Sausage Brunch and fruit. Mrs. Steve (LuAnn) Aakhus arrived for the event on a jet plane on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Loftesnes, Mrs. Brewer, and Mrs. Lang autoed to the airport in Denver to meet Mrs. Aakhus as she departed her plane. As the latter was hungry after deplaning, the group stopped at a Subway for nourishment on the way back to Colorado Springs. Saturday evening, all took in the Confirmation Banquet held in the church parlor. Served by the youth was pasta with various sauces, lettuce salad, and Brownies for dessert.

Following the meal, the confirmands practiced their faith statements in the sanctuary while families looked on with pride.

Sunday morning, Confirmation Day, dawned cloudy and cool, but spirits were not to be dampened. Seven young people affirmed their baptismal covenant while family and friends layed on hands and blessed them along with the Reverend Julie.

After the service, Mrs. Lang served a delicious meal of Baked Ham with Brown Sugar Glaze, Baked Asparagus, Cheesy Potatoes, Mandarin Orange Salad, Pickles, and a Cookie Dessert. A lovely table was set with Mrs. M.O. (Laverne) Lang's china and silver. The latter is the confirmand's 93 year old grandmother who was in attendance for the festivities as well.

Gift opening ensued with the confirmand receiving many lovely momentos of her special day. All in attendance had a warm and blessed day despite the damp and cool weather. Mrs. Aakhus departed on the afternoon plane from Denver and Mrs. Loftesnes and Mrs. Brewer left the next morning by auto to return to North Dakota. The 13 hour journey was lightened by Mrs. Brewer and Mrs. Loftesnes sharing memories of the short, but very sweet, week-end.

  1. I'm not sure about the names in parenthesis. I think they interrupt the flow of the sentences.
