Sweet, Simple Things

"I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life that are the real ones after all." --Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867-1957, Author of "Little House on the Prairie")

I wonder how old Ms. Wilder was when she wrote those words. If the dates in the quote are correct, she lived to be 90 years old. I have a hunch that her ability to enjoy life's simple things may have played a part in her longevity.

So begins my column (hopefully a weekly one) celebrating the simple things in my day that could go unnoticed. It's an attempt to be more observant and appreciative of the sweet, simple things in life. Here goes the list for today:

* 1. Smelling the coffee brewing when I woke up.

* 2. The warm water splashing on my body in the shower.

* 3. Stepping outside, feeling and smelling the spring rain.

* 4. Putting a few stitches in my quilt before work.

* 5. Bringing a cold glass of water to a patient.

What were the "sweet, simple" things in your day? I'd like to hear!
