Dear Diary,
I had a nice day today. It was one of those days where the veil between heaven and earth was more gauzy, more opaque than usual. You know what I mean. Love seemed to flow in Technicolor. The sun shone golden on the oranges and reds in the trees and bushes. The corn stalks waiting in the fields for harvest crackled in the breeze. Late blooming, hardy petunias and marigolds held up their bright heads in defiance of the coming winter.
I had the day off due to it being Columbus Day-one of the perks of working for the government! I met Lenny for lunch and then puttered around in the yard tucking things away for winter. We had been in Fargo for the week-end. I had the privilege of watching precious Eliza June while her Mom and Dad went to dinner and a movie. She's such a joy--waving bye-bye, blowing kisses and clapping her hands. Well on her way to being a delightful one-year old.
The day ended with meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, and squash for supper. Does it get better than that? I cherish this time of year because I can light candles again in the evening and feel all cozy and warm while a cool breeze drifts in through the open windows. There are many scary things going on in the world right now. Ebola and Iraq and suicides and car accidents where very young people are killed. But today was good.
