Brewer Garden Report. No Beaner?

Look at these beautiful bean plants! We've been excited watching them climb furiously up the  lattice that Lenny put up for them. But there have been no beans--what good is a gorgeous, healthy-looking plant if there is no produce to accompany it? Now, I know that beauty can just be beauty for its own sake, like my flowers. That's their purpose in life. Bean plants are meant to grow beans. I have been stewing about this for several weeks. Pondering why we have no beans, not even a blossom. I have been looking forward to fresh beans from our garden since we planted the seeds in May.

Well, lo and behold, I was out picking high achieving peas yesterday when I happened to look over at the lazy bean plants and what did I see? Baby beans! Hooray! I called Lenny over to take a look. Not only were there beans, but dozens more little white blossoms that promise even more produce.

It's amazing what a late bloomer can do if given some patience. The peas will be done and gone and we could have beans coming out of our ears!
