Dear Diary, I just got home from Fargo where I had my first grandma-sitting gig with Eliza June. Her daddy and mama had a close friend's wedding to attend. They had planned that the baby would be at least 2-3 weeks old by that time. But as nature would have it, Eliza was 2 weeks late. That made her just 1 week old by the wedding week-end! I was honored to be trusted with her. I worked until noon on Friday, then zoomed down the road as I listened to the book, "Gone Girl". It turned out to be a riveting story that helped the 5 hour trip fly by. Luckily, it was a gorgeous late autumn day with dry roads. I'm not sure how many of those we have left before winter sinks its teeth in and makes traveling treacherous. The wedding was Saturday afternoon. Eliza's mama and daddy got all dressed up and left the house for a much deserved outing.
They'd been through a lot in the past week or so! Eliza and I settled in for some grandmotherly bonding time.
I texted several times to give assurance that all was well. I wanted them to enjoy themselves and not worry. I was certainly enjoying myself! There's something about holding a tiny baby in your arms that releases stress and brings peace. It was what I needed after a tough week at work. They didn't stay out late as Eliza gets hungry quite often and mama has the food! Our first adventure together went well and I'm hoping for more grandma-sitting gigs in the future!
Oh Pam! she is just gorgeous, and I can see you enjoying the pink touches everywhere. Makes me ache for a little one to hold & love & cuddle.
