Since we have descended into the January Freeze Cycle I have been thinking about reasons to appreciate this time of year. Not to actually enjoy it, but at least find ways to cope. With that in mind I've come up with this list:
10. Daisy comes in on the first call. In fact after approximately 10 seconds in the cold she's scratching on the door to get in. No running amuck. And it's easy to know if she did her job because of the tell-tale yellow snow.
9. Sun dogs. Ice crystals form to create a stunning ring of light around the sun.
8. No worries about keeping my toenails painted and pretty. They're covered in a layer of thick socks and sturdy shoes with rubber non-skid soles.
7. I can enter a room incognito because no one knows who it is behind the fogged up glasses.
6. If bread or chicken or ice cream is on sale I can stock up and use the garage for a freezer.
5. Wrapping up in a fleece blanket with a cup of tea and my Nook. What's better than that?
4. We don't need to be gifted conversationalists. "Cold enuf for ya?" is all that's needed to find common ground and start up a good, long visit.
3. No need to fret about about how I should be staining the deck, weeding gardens, mowing the lawn, painting the house, etc...............
2. The fly swatter isn't sitting on the counter where we fix food. No need for it. No need for stinky mosquito sprays either.
1. We can put the garbage in the garage for a week until it gets picked up and it doesn't stink!
Do any of my dear, discerning readers have anything to add?
My number one reason - SNOW DAY! (Add a few inches of snow to the cold temperatures.)
