1. I had the pleasure of voting at an elementary school near to where we live. I was awash in the joy of our democratic system that allows the people to have a voice, and then I witnessed the exuberance of young children in classrooms and hallways excited about life itself. Nice way to start the day.
2. One of my blog posts had two comments! Thank You!
3. The grapes in the store right now are huge and delicious and on sale.
4. I have a friend teaching English in Costa Rica. It amazes me that we are able to visit in real time for no cost.
5. Having my way with left-overs. I saute onions, green peppers, and garlic; throw in whatever else I can find in the fridge and serve it over rice. Good for a Wednesday night dinner.
When I look back at my list, I realize that these really aren't simple things. They are magnificent achievements by folks who have labored long to make life better for all. The fact that they seem simple is a tribute to the vision of extraordinary people. Women voting, the democratic process, grapes in North Dakota in November, instant communication from around the world...mostly unheard of a century ago. Now, left-overs, that's something that probably hasn't changed for eons!
