Almost All Saint's Day
All Saint's Day isn't officially until tomorrow, but since I have time I'm going to post my remembrance today. It's a day to honor those dear ones that have departed physically, but still remain an important part of our lives. Hardly a day goes by that I don't think of my father. He died in January 2000 at the too early age of 66. Dad was a farmer, a lover of the land. He spent his years doing hard physical labor, but had the soul of a philosopher. He was a kind, gentle man who loved classical music and poetry. He was widely read and could discuss events; historical and present, with knowledge and wisdom. He loved to argue his point, and since he leaned toward a liberal opinion he had no trouble finding folks with a difffering point of view. But he always managed to keep heated conversations respectful. He used his delightful sense of humor to lighten up any circumstance and had a joke for every situation. They usually involved Ole and Lena! Today I'm lighting a candle in his honor and remembering his life with joy and gratitude mixed with a pinch of grief and sorrow.-----------------------------------------------This is Dad a few weeks before he died.
I miss you, Dad.
