The weather didn't cooperate in the least. Late summer winds howled at speeds of 25-30 mph with gusts even stronger. Mr. Brewer didn't feel comfortable putting his boat in such a big body of water with waves that resembled a mini-tsumani.
Mr. Brewer managed to switch gears from action to relaxation with no problem!
Normally it's not easy to catch Mrs. Loftesnes wrapped in a blanket reading a magazine. But from the looks of this photo, she was thoroughly enjoying herself.
Mr. Loftesnes caught up on farming and trade magazines while waiting for the wind to die down (it never did, only got stronger).
They managed to cook steaks Saturday night as the grill was in a corner on the side of the cabin protected from the wind. Along with the steak they had corn on the cob and new potatoes with fried onions. It was a delicious meal enjoyed by all. Since a camp fire was out of the question they snuggled down, munched on popcorn, and watched "Somethings Gotta Give" with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. They went to bed with the sound of the wind howling through the windows but felt optimistic they would be able to get out and do some fishing Sunday morning. Alas, it was not to be. Mother Nature simply did not want to turn down the velocity on the wind. They resigned themselves to cooking a hearty breakfast of deer sausage and scrambled eggs, packing up, and heading home.
Despite the relentless wind, the group agreed the week-end was a success. Nothing like what they had planned, but just what each one needed.
Sometimes nature forces us to just relax inside!
