Sweet, Simple Things

In my day to day work with cancer patients, I am continuously reminded of the importance of stopping to smell the roses. When I get in a tizzy about some small annoyance I remind myself that no matter what happens, for today I don't have to deal with a diagnosis of cancer. I may have to at some point in my life, but not today. My patients give me the gift of focusing on the beauty and joy of each day. With that said, this is my list of Sweet, Simple Things for today:

1. Having a hamburger and french fries for lunch with my husband who returned safely from his motorcycle trip.

2. Having a patient tell me I stuck a needle in her so expertly she didn't feel it.

3. No water in our basement when three inches of rain fell in less than thirty minutes.

4. The sound of the wind and the rain outside and feeling cozy and warm inside.

5. Getting Friday off from work, unexpectantly!

(My flower garden bore the brunt of the storm.)
