The News from Whispering Pines

After several choking starts spring finally took off this week-end. Temperatures at Whispering Pines were in the 70's during the day and 40's at night. Fabulous. Mr. and Mrs. Brewer took the opportunity on Sunday morning to launch their boat for the first time this season. Mrs. Brewer reports that it was still quite chilly on the lake with the wind blowing over the frigid water. She had her jacket on and the hood laced up tight as Mr. Brewer raced the boat across the lake, but also remembered to apply sunscreen to her face as one must guard one's skin against the ravages of the sun even when one can't feel the heat. They scooted from one potential fishing hole to another with no luck, not even a bite! Mr. Brewer's fancy electronic fish finder showed plenty of fish in the water, but none hungry enough to want to nibble at their worms. After several hours they reeled in their lines and drove home to spend the afternoon puttering in the yard. A good day was had even though there were no fish to cook for their supper! (Luckily, Mrs. Brewer had a back-up plan in mind.)
