Sweet, Simple Things for Saturday, Feb. 6th

I haven't posted a list of Sweet, Simple things for a few months. It's February and winter is wearing on me. I do like winter, but I'd like to break for spring about now. The snow flakes falling softly on the pine trees outside my window weren't quite as pretty this morning as they were in December. The children in the yard across the road are making an adorable snowman, but it's not as cute as it was a month ago. Lenny didn't seem so excited about firing up the snowblower this morning. Instead, I caught him looking longingly at his Harley. And he loves his snowblower! Today I decided I need to focus on some sweet, simple things to survive until the home stretch to spring. Here's the list I came up with:

1. My morning shower. This morning I wanted to linger in the hot spray. I soaped myself down an extra time and let the warm water soothe and calm my body as I rinsed.

2. I stood in the window at Regis in the mall and watched Lenny get his hair cut. He was visiting with the stylist and they were having a good time. His easy way with people always amazes me.

3. I had an ice cream treat at the mall--Rocky Road Ice Cream in a Waffle Shell--Oh Yeah!

4. I watched my neice, Whitney, play basketball this afternoon. My Aunt Ardy was with me, which was an added surprise and pleasure.

5. Listening to Garrison Keillor on NPR is a Saturday evening routine and I love it. After a Prairie Home Companion the station plays a few hours of jazz. Great Saturday night entertainment and I don't even have to leave home!

Really, the list could go on. Winter doesn't seem so bad when I change my focus. There are pleasures in each moment of the day no matter what the season. Noticing them is the challenge!
