Saturday at Whispering Pines

It felt so good to wake up this morning and realize it was Saturday. I was looking forward to spending the day with Lenny as he'd been gone to Texas all week and I missed him! We started our day with breakfast at a local restaurant. I had pancakes, scrambled eggs, and Canadian Bacon. Yumm... should last me until supper. We had a server who was friendly and efficient. I told her how much we appreciated her good service and left a nice tip. Eating out is so pleasant when the service is fast and friendly. Good food helps, as well!

Next stop was a flea market that is held at the State Fair Building once a month. We spent an hour or so browsing through old dishes, baked goods (lefse, kuchen, popcorn balls, pies, many kinds of bread-oh, so tempting), old jewelry, Beanie Babies (does anyone love those anymore?), Watkins products, used books, and much more. Lenny found some "amazing" old records (Lefty Frizell, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings), and I picked up a rug and some ginger snap cookies (my favorite). I got a free ring cleaning, as well. It's a sweet, simple pleasure to watch my wedding ring sparkle in the light!

We got home from the flea market and decided it was time to get some outdoor work done at Whispering Pines. After a week of cold and snow it was a sunny and crisp day. Perfect for cleaning out the flower beds and tucking in the perennials. It felt sad to be pulling up the dead plants and flowers that I had so diligently and carefully tended all summer. I'm already anxious to plant next spring! To ease the pain, I repotted some of my house plants and vowed to take good care of them over the winter. The indoor plants can get ignored in the summer, for the more glorious and exciting flowers outside.

Lenny puttered with his Harley, took one last cruise, and parked it for the winter. (See his sad face?)

Saturday wouldn't be complete without the necessary trip to Target for toilet paper, laundry detergent, pet food, paper towels... (you get the idea).

For supper, Lenny experimented with the smoker I gave him for his birthday. He made BBQ ribs which turned out pretty good, but we both agreed it may take a few trys to hone his skills.

I ended the day by working on a project of Norwegian Hardanger embroidery. It's been sitting by my chair all summer and desperately needed attention as an important deadline is looming. Needle work is one reason I like fall and winter. It isn't something I can get motivated to do in the heat and light of summer. I need to light a candle and have a cup of hot tea to get in the proper mood for stitching!

And so ends a perfectly delightful day. The highlight was getting to see Parker (and his mama and daddy) on Skype. He's getting so big! I wanted to reach through the screen and hold him- technology still has a ways to go!

  2. Yes, it was a good day. I wish we could've come to Fargo, but hopefully we'll get to see you and Jenilee soon.
