Bragging Rights: A Queen and a Quest

It's been quite a week for family pride. My niece, Whitney, was crowned Homecoming Queen at Minot State University. She represented the Business Club, of which she is a member. There were 13 beautiful, vibrant, and intelligent young women vying for the crown. Whitney was chosen by a vote of the student body. Her boyfriend, Eli, was her brilliant campaign manager. After the crowning the paparrazi crowded around Whitney snapping pictures non-stop. (The King didn't get near as much attention.) Of course, I was among the paparrazi. The only obnoxious thing I did was spill my punch while trying to juggle my camera, my purse and the plastic cup.

Don't laugh. This is the best I could do: postage stamp picture. It took all of my technical skill to accomplish getting this photo from Facebook to my blog! Anyway, if you look close you can see my lovely older sister, LuAnn, in a slick biking outfit. She just finished a 4 day, 250 mile bike ride through the hills and valleys of Northern Michigan. She rode with 400 other employees of Davita, a kidney dialysis company, to raise money to promote awareness and prevention of kidney disease. She rode especially for Roger (a.k.a. Hoo-doo) Hillerud. He's our cousin and is currently undergoing three times a week dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant.

I'm SO proud of Whitney and LuAnn!
