Relay for Life

Friday night was Minot's Relay for Life. It's the American Cancer Society's annual walk to celebrate cancer survivors and remember those who have not survived. I was a member of the team sponsored by the Cancer Center where I work. I enlisted my mother to walk with me for the 7-10PM shift. Around the perimeter and in the center of the circular drive where we walked were luminaries with names of cancer survivers and also names of those who have died. So many people with cancer! And that's just in Minot, North Dakota. The theme for this year was: Celebrate. Remember. Fight back.

This evening was mostly about celebrating. Each team had a camper or tent set up and were selling various items (mostly food!) to raise money for the Cancer Society. We sampled chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, Starbuck's Coffee, yummy sticky fudge, freshly popped popcorn and huge Rice Krispie Bars. Of course after each sweet thing we took another lap around the track so we could taste more treats! That's what I call Celebrating Life!
