The News from Whispering Pines

Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Brewer motored out to Mrs. Andrew Loftesnes' farm to celebrate Mr. Darrel Loftesnes' birthday. Besides Mrs. Loftesnes and the Brewer's, in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Loftesnes, Whitney Loftesnes, Mrs. C.B. Stevens and Mr. Stanely Hillerud. They all took various routes to arrive at the farm as many of the country roads were under water due to spring flooding. Mrs. Loftesnes prepared a delicious meal of Swiss Steak, lettuce salad, baked vegie dish, potatoes, and various and sundry other tasty treats. Mrs. Darrel Loftesnes' buns were again enjoyed by all. While eating Mr. Loftesnes' favorite cake, German Chocolate, they were entertained with stories of past horrific winters and catastrophic spring floods washing out roads in years past. It seems on April 10, 1949, the temperature was 86 degrees. Several in attendance remembered that particular spring. After supper, Mr. and Mrs. Brewer took a stroll down the driveway to view the overflowing lake and to walk off some of the meal. Visiting was shortened as all needed to get across the treacherous roads before dark set in. A good time was had by all.
